In which we find our heroes, Sam Moore and Dave Prater making a compilation of the best songs they did in the Stax Volt years and It came out on Atlantic.
Sam and Dave were two of the best soul and RnB singers in the sixties. They hooked up with the Stax Volt crew early on, and that gave you one of the best rhythm sections you could ever wish to hear. You basically had Booker T and the MGs backing a ton of this shit. That meant a very young Steve Cropper on guitar and also a very young Don 'Duck' Dunn on bass. Masters.
Anyhoo, this is a great comp of their best work . Check it out, kiddos. You should have this on heavy rotation.
Side note, this album changed my life when I heard "Hold On, I'm Coming" back in 1980 when I saw Blues Brother's live on the movies. They had this album on 8 track.....
Sam and Dave. The Best of Sam and Dave.
Atlantic Records, 1969.
